After World War II there was a huge positive attitude about the  economy and the world in general and people wanted a better life style than they had before.

Even though there were many politically tense moments during the Cold War, people generally had high hopes for the future.

This led to the psychedellic 60s with it's drug culture and politically active youth and caused a huge shift in how people viewed the world and their role in it.

Technology kept up a wild and furious pace and man landed on the moon.

Most families had both spouses working in order to pay for more lavish life styles and women had increasingly greater roles in industry and the work force.

The 70s to 90s saw Professional Sports (and TV) become a massive part of people's lives and people themselves had more available time for leisure activities.

All that was reflected in the books published through that time.
